An Open Mic Summer Fundraiser to Remember

On 21 June, ATD Fourth World hosted a joyful open mic summer fundraiser in our beautiful courtyard at Addington Square. The warm, sunny day set the perfect backdrop for an afternoon filled with music, creativity, and community.
Guests enjoyed fresh-baked pizzas, a colourful range of non-alcoholic cocktails, and refreshing ice lollies, all while lounging on picnic blankets, beanbags, and cushions scattered across the courtyard underneath our cherry blossom tree. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly as the community chatted, laughed, and soaked up the sunshine together.
The open mic welcomed a range of performers who shared original songs, soulful jazz, and moving poetry. Our spoken-word workshops gave new voices the chance to shine, and some of the participants bravely shared their pieces with the crowd. Temporary tattoos also added a playful touch and were a big hit with guests of all ages.
As the sun went down, the evening closed with exuberant — if slightly off-key — karaoke that brought us together in song, laughter, and dance that reminded us all of the true strength of community and the joy that comes from being together.
The event was a truly wonderful day full of connection, creativity, and joy… And we’re already excited to do it all again next year!
